Bedessa (Wolaita)
Bedessa ( Geʽez: በዴሳ, Wolaytatto: Badeesa) is a town in Wolayita Zone of the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region, Ethiopia. The town is administrative capital of Damot Weyde district of Wolayita Zone, Ethiopia. Bedessa is located about 373 KM away from Addis Ababa to the south on Sodo-Dimtu-Hawassa road, and 21 KM away from Sodo, the capital of Wolaita Zone. The amenities in the town are, 24 hours electricity, pure public water, banks, schools, postal service, telecommunications services and others. The town has a wire bridge which connects the town with other surrounding communities. Bedessa lies between 6°52'58.9"N 37°55'58.5"E. Demography Based on the 2018 population projection by the Central Statistical Agency of Ethiopia, Bedessa has a total population of 35,294, of whom 20,855 are women and 14,439 are men. Badessa, Oromia
Badessa is a town and separate Aanaa in eastern Ethiopia. Located in the West Hararghe Zone of the Oromia Region, at the base of a spur of the Chercher Mountains 40 km south of the Addis Ababa - Djibouti Railway and 65 km east of Awash, this town has a latitude and longitude of with an elevation of 1761 m above sea level. According to the local administration, the total population has reached 114 ,000 in 2022. The 2007 national census reported a total population for this town of 18,187, of whom 9,592 were men and 8,595 were women. The majority of the inhabitants said they were Muslim, with 64.49% of the population reporting they observed this belief, while 33.08% of the population practised Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity and 2.07% of the population were Protestant. Biate People
The Biates are one of the hill tribes of Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura and Manipur. Their language belongs to the Tibeto-Burman family. Spread over many parts of North-East India, they have a unique identity with a rich and distinctive history, culture, dialect and religious heritages. They are one of the oldest hill tribes of North East India especially among the Chin-Kuki-Mizo family. The term Biate comes from the word Bia-te. The word ‘Bia’ or ‘Biak’ means ‘speak’ or ‘worship’. ‘Te’ is a suffix denoting plurality. Hence, the two words combine to form the word ''Biate'', which means ''worshipper''. According to legends, while they were in Saitual, a group of people known as the Koilam or Kawilam from Rulchawm village of Mizoram (India) used to sacrifice human to appease a large python called Rulpui, believing that the snake had supernatural power.
